Alright, so you're thinking of getting a Heavy Rigid (HR) truck licence but there is one thing you need to know, how much will it cost?
The main factor that will determine how much a HR licence will cost is which type of gearbox do you want to learn in, automatic/synchromesh or constant mesh (RoadRanger)? To find out more about the difference head to our Frequently Asked Questions.
When it comes to training a student to drive a heavy vehicle, the gearbox they choose to do their training with makes a difference. This is because usually, teaching a student to drive a vehicle fitted with a RoadRanger gearbox takes more time then teaching a student to drive a vehicle fitted with an automatic/synchromesh gearbox. Not only that, it also requires really knowledgable instructors who not only know how to drive a RoadRanger, but know how to clearly articulate the processes a student must use to drive a RoadRanger efficiently.
As with many things in life, you get what you pay for, and it's no different when it comes to choosing a training provider for getting your truck licence. It's important to do your research, check reviews, and speak with the provider to get a feel for who they are. Driving a heavy vehicle is a serious responsibility, don't be caught out choosing the cheapest course you can find, only to then feel like your training has let you down when you are out on the road!
Based on the above factors, below is what we believe a quality HR Licence will cost you in Sydney, NSW:

HR RoadRanger: $1200 +
